Order from chaos, says the Latin, and the episode is the chaos half of the bargain. Grace and Sean bring George in for questioning, and the interview does what interviews do: it starts turning over rocks. But whatever George knows, Morgan wants it buried, and the drastic measures that follow tell you exactly how close to something the questioning has come. It's the kind of engine that runs on silences as much as answers, and the episode has the confidence to hold those silences. George's answers, when they come, are worth more than the noise around them.

Shane is on the other side of town on what should be a routine call-out, and the unexpected thing that happens there drags the episode's two halves into each other. The show has used this shape before, but it still works, because the suspense is less about what happens than about who gets to it first. Both halves are moving at once, and the cutting between them does the work that any number of chase scenes couldn't. The episode trusts the audience to keep up.

Lawn and Patterson wrote it, Angela Griffin directed, and it aired in October 2025. The regulars are all present and doing fine work, Siân Brooke's Grace and Frank Blake's Shane carrying the main load, with Katherine Devlin, Nathan Braniff, Richard Dormer, Dearbháile McKinney and Martin McCann filling the ranks and Andrea Irvine's Nicola Robinson keeping the institution in view. It's a reminder of how much of policing is waiting, and how much of waiting is watching.

The episode drew 4.59 million UK viewers when it went out, and it's easy to see why. It's a pressure-cooker hour that trusts the mechanics of the investigation to do the scaring, which they do, quietly and thoroughly. It's the strongest hour of the season so far, and it sets the table for the finale.
