Trigger Point · S02E04
Episode 4
First aired 2024-02-18 · Written by Daniel Brierley, Amanda Duke · Directed by Jon East
Alex has come in from the cold, or so it seems. He contacts the police with details of a new attack planned for that very day, and the intelligence is the kind every investigation prays for: specific and urgent. Then Commander Francis does the sensible thing and warns the team against putting too much trust in it. The episode lives in the space between those two pulls, and it makes that space very uncomfortable. Alex knows what is coming, and that makes him valuable and dangerous at once.
But every piece of intelligence now feels both vital and potentially misleading. The team has to treat the threat as real while treating the source as suspect, and the hour becomes a tense exercise in professional doubt. It is the kind of episode where a single decision can be wrong in two directions at once. The stakes are high and the clock is short, but the trust is rationed. It is a different kind of pressure from a live device, and just as wearing.
Daniel Brierley and Amanda Duke wrote it, Jon East directed it, and the cast is in fine form. Vicky McClure's Lana and Bethan Cullinane's Hope carry much of the weight, with Jarren Dalmeda's Inspector Pierce and Tomiwa Edun's Alex at the centre of the drama. Kevin Eldon's Jeff Washington, Nabil Elouahabi's Hassan Rahim and Kerry Godliman's Sonya Reeves are back, joined by Tamzin Griffin's Val Washington, Dino Kelly's Mac and Os Leanse's Hugo. The series has built a team worth caring about, and this hour leans on that.
It is satisfying to see the procedural tension explored through established character dynamics, with institutional caution set against a live threat. Doubt, it turns out, is a professional tool here, not a failing. The episode is a reminder that in this work, information is only as good as the person vouching for it.
