She's Out: Episode 6
First aired 1995-04-10 · Written by Lynda La Plante · Directed by Ian Toynton
The train gives them one last run on the old route, which means the job goes the next day, ready or not. Mike is on board now, and the women go over the plan until it is second nature. The following night they set out, and for a while everything holds. Then, as they are hauling the money out, the carriage starts to slip into the lake. Connie is trapped inside. Dolly goes back in after her and gets her out, which is the sort of loyalty that does not show up on a balance sheet.
Back at the house the money is hidden and the place tidied in a hurry. The police arrive and search, and find nothing. D.I. Craig comes by later with a complaint about the bill for repairs to the house, which after the night they have had must feel almost insulting in its smallness. But the day is not done with them. Ester finds a passport and tickets in Dolly's bedroom and overhears Dolly agreeing to a deal for half the money. Ester hears police in it. Whatever Dolly is actually arranging, the misunderstanding is going to cost somebody.
Lynda La Plante wrote it, Ian Toynton directed. Ann Mitchell's Dolly keeps her nerve in the water and out of it, with Linda Marlowe's Ester working herself up to a conclusion that is wrong in every particular. Maureen Sweeney, Anna Patrick, Zoe Heyes and Indra Ové are around them, Adrian Rawlins's DS Mike Withey has crossed over properly now, and Hugh Quarshie's DCI Ron Craigh, Douglas McFerran's DS John Palmer and Georgina Latham's Kate O'Reilly fill out the day.
The money is in the house and the police are none the wiser, and the biggest threat in the room is a woman misreading a conversation. For a crew that just robbed a mail train, the quiet hours are the dangerous ones.
