Softly Softly: Task Force · S02E01
Baptism
First broadcast 1970-09-16 · Ian Hogg as Tommy Abbott
Three prisoners escaped and the whole force on high alert, cornered men being hard to predict. Hogg is Tommy Abbott in the opener of the series' second run, with Barlow leading the response, Watt working beside him and the perimeter tightening around the derelict building the breakout landed them in.
Minder · S03E06
Another Bride, Another Groom
First broadcast 1982-02-17 · Ian Hogg as Grantley
Arthur's niece is marrying, the wedding limousine is busy shifting a load of magazines Arthur believed were books, and the magazines turn out to be pornography whose owner gives chase while a corrupt policeman circles for blackmail. Hogg is Grantley in the wedding-day chaos — the same episode that caught Warren Clarke's Ashmole, two careers crossing at Arthur's expense.
Taggart · S08E01
The Hit Man
First broadcast 1992-09-17 · Ian Hogg as Jimmy Catto
An old friend of Taggart's gets out of prison and the bodies start piling up, with someone busy muddying the waters from the start. Hogg is Jimmy Catto in a story where a family member is threatened by a man posing as a vicar and a funeral becomes a staging post rather than a full stop — nobody in the family telling the whole story, and the team feeling it.
Midsomer Murders · S05E02
A Worm in the Bud
First broadcast 2002-06-23 · Ian Hogg as Jonah Bloxham
A woman dead in Setwale Wood, an apparent suicide — until the timestamp of the emailed note undoes the theory, dead people being poor correspondents. Hogg is Jonah Bloxham among the village figures Barnaby and Troy pull into view, in a neat piece of Midsomer misdirection where the comfortable explanation would have closed the case but for one message.
Foyle's War · S01E02
The White Feather
First broadcast 2002-11-03 · Ian Hogg as Ian Lane
The series' second film, invasion expected daily: a young woman caught cutting telephone wires, unrepentant and certain the Germans will reward her, and DS Milner — six weeks early with an artificial leg — accepting a lift into the Friday Club, a private gathering where fascism is delivered as ordinary political argument. Hogg is Ian Lane in the episode that found the show's subject: the ugliness the war exposes at home. The episode pages for Foyle's War are not yet on the site.
Waking the Dead · S03E05
Breaking Glass (1)
First broadcast 2003-09-27 · Ian Hogg as Oliver Gill
A recovered-memory therapist brings the Cold Case Squad a regime of abuse in local care homes and a suspected murder attached — and by the hour's end her source has vanished, gone hunting the man who abused him and killed his friend. Hogg is Oliver Gill in the inversion that gives the story its shape: the squad chasing a potential killer's victim, trying to reach him first.
Waking the Dead · S03E06
Breaking Glass (2)
First broadcast 2003-09-28 · Ian Hogg as Oliver Gill
The double chase: the squad's procedural identification of a man who has spent decades hiding behind institutions, run against the clock of two victims hunting him on their own — whichever side finds him first decides how the story ends. Hogg's Oliver Gill sits in the middle of the grimness, in a two-parter Stephen Davis and Barbara Machin keep taut from both ends.
