Episode 4

Roz Huntley's husband Nick is brought in for questioning by AC-12, and the interview room gets very small very quickly. Nick denies any involvement in the attack on Steve Arnott, but his suspicions about Roz are mounting by the minute. Meanwhile AC-12 finds new anomalies in the forensic evidence and issues Roz a second Reg 15 notice. The case against her looks watertight. The second Reg 15 notice lands like a warning shot. Nick's loyalty to Roz and his fear of her are fighting a private war, and the interview room is where it shows.

Then Roz starts dismantling it. Using information only she could have, she picks the case apart piece by piece. But the episode becomes a duel between a cornered woman and the people trying to catch her. Nick's questioning and Roz's countermoves run side by side, and the show cuts between them with real confidence. The couple's marriage is another casualty of the investigation, and the episode does not flinch from that. It enjoys the mechanics of the dismantling, and the details are the weapon.

Jed Mercurio wrote it, John Strickland directed. Thandiwe Newton and Lee Ingleby make the Huntleys' marriage a battlefield, and the AC-12 side is as strong as ever: Martin Compston's Arnott, Adrian Dunbar's Hastings, Vicky McClure's Fleming, Maya Sondhi's Bindra. Royce Pierreson's Desford, Patrick Baladi's Lakewell, Carolyn Bracken's paramedic and Syreeta Kumar's trauma consultant fill out the rest. The cast is reliable right down the line, and the episode trusts them with the quiet scenes as much as the loud ones.

The episode is about how institutional pressure works when personal loyalties are tangled up in it, and it is a grim pleasure to watch. Roz is not simply guilty or innocent, and the show keeps her in that grey space. The watertight case is leaking. But the question is whether anyone can bail fast enough. The duel is not about shouting; it is about who blinks first, and neither of them is blinking yet.
