Episode 4

Nidge, down with flu and nursed by Trish, spots Lizzie and Wayne breaking into his house to shoot him. He takes up a samurai sword and hides under his son Warren's bed while the two search the rooms, and they leave without finding him. Driving away, Lizzie rear-ends another car, attacks the other driver with a crowbar and stays to wait for the Gardaí, who arrest her. The coverage treats her waiting as a deliberate puzzle, and no source resolves it.

The episode runs the surveillance plot and the revenge plot to their first collision. Fran, still short two teeth, organises a dummy run to bring a shipment of the mixing agent lidocaine into Andrew the dentist's warehouse. He learns from his friend Deano that the mother of Noely Hughes, the man who attacked him in the pub, has been dead for three months, so his revenge will be to dig up the body. At the surgery, Andrew's sacked hygienist has already told the Gardaí about the men using the practice, and the Gardaí use the information to place bugs in Nidge's car and in Andrew's dental warehouse, giving Moynihan audio of the gang planning the importation.

Wayne, sent back to his grandmother's to deposit the gun, is seized by Elmo and taken to Nidge in a derelict flat, where Nidge questions him about who is behind the contract on his life. Wayne refuses to name anyone; the Gardaí arrive and everyone runs. Wayne is caught and tells the Gardaí there is nothing wrong, that he and his mates were only messing, so nobody is charged. Nidge, impressed that Wayne kept quiet, tells him he could use him.

In the graveyard, Fran and his team dig up Noely Hughes's mother's body, and Fran urinates on the corpse before reburying it. The lidocaine shipment arrives at the warehouse under close Garda surveillance, with Andrew giving a thumbs-up he will regret.

The episode's other half follows Nidge's meeting with Tony, the northern fixer, who extracts a cut of the tiger-kidnapping money and explains that Dano's pursuit of Nidge was a solo run, not an order from the organisation. Dano is taken out to the woods by his own side, kneecapped and told the movement doesn't need riff raff like him, and left to die in the mud, as Sinéad O'Connor's This Is a Rebel Song plays. With Dano gone and Wayne now recruited, Lizzie is left isolated: her right-hand man has joined the man she is trying to kill. The episode ends on Nidge still alive and Tony's arrangement holding.

The house search is the hour's best use of domestic space as a trap, and the Dano exit is its most consequential event, the series' first on-screen death of a character it had spent time establishing. The weakness is how much the episode carries at once: the lidocaine run, the bugging, the break-in, the arrest, the graveyard, Tony and Dano, with the death compressed into the end of the hour.

The episode kills Dano and recruits Wayne, reversing the series' power balance inside a single hour, and it changes the show's tension from discovery to interception, since the Gardaí can now hear the gang's plans directly. It drew 706,000 viewers, a drop of 230,000 on the previous week that RTÉ attributed to bank-holiday viewing patterns and higher time-shifting, with a further 27,500 watching on RTÉ One +1. The dog-fight material drew three emails of complaint across the series, the only number attached to it. No episode-specific critical review beyond the news coverage was located.
