Trigger Point · S03E05
Episode 5
First aired 2025-11-09 · Written by Daniel Brierley, Harlan Davies · Directed by Audrey Cooke
Episode five is the one where the bomber stops being clever and starts being grand. The target he picks stands for the whole campaign, a statement in explosives, and the symbolism is not lost on the team either. Lana has to find the device while the world around her comes apart. The search takes place in a setting defined by panic, and the hour leans into the chaos rather than tidying it up for the cameras. Crowds, sirens, the works.
But there is something almost old-fashioned about this one. The detective work has been put aside for the week; what remains is a clock, a crowd, and a woman trying to spot the needle before it goes off. Daniel Brierley and Harlan Davies's script strips the series back to its basic engine, and director Audrey Cooke films the confusion with a steady eye. It is claustrophobic, taut, and it works, which is all anyone asks of a chase episode, and it does the job without cheating.
The cast is called on to sell urgency without sliding into shouting, and they manage it. Vicky McClure's Lana cuts through the panic like someone keeping a mental list, while Maisie Ayres's Wren Cheshire, Kaye Brown's Jo Adeyemi, Sam Crane's Anders Larsson, Nabil Elouahabi's Hassan Rahim, Jason Flemyng's Steven Wyles, Gabriella Fortuna's Jessica Tanbury, Tom Glenister's DC Neil Brenton, Christopher Hatherall's Phil Croxley and William Ilkley's Isaac Wyles all feed the confusion around her, and the panic never once feels staged.
This is the kind of hour Trigger Point does best: the bomb-suit episode with a countdown you can feel in the edit. The professional dedication is all over it, and the ensemble sells it. Sometimes the simplest threats are the ones that keep you watching, and this one does, right up to the last sweep of the room.
