Episode 6

The finale gives Lana what the whole season has been pushing towards: the truth. One last attack lands, and in its wake she finally sees the campaign for what it is. The pattern of bombings was always the surface; the reason underneath is what she finally reaches, and it changes everything she thought she knew about the threat. The confession she has fought for through the entire series comes at last, and the episode is built around her reckoning with it. It is a heavy hour, and the show knows it.

Chris Brandon and Daniel Brierley's script has been patient about this reveal, dropping pieces across the season, and here it lets them fall into place. Audrey Cooke directs the finale with the same steady hand she brought to the previous two episodes, keeping the focus on Lana rather than the fireworks. The confession scene is the heart of the hour, and the cast earns it, letting the moment breathe instead of rushing the payoff, which is the surest sign of a finale made by people who trust their story, and the trust is repaid.

McClure carries the weight of it all. Emma Amos's Anya Wyles, Maisie Ayres's Wren Cheshire, Katie Bernstein's Jenny Manning, Kevin Eldon's Jeff, Nabil Elouahabi's Hassan Rahim, Jason Flemyng's Steven Wyles, Tom Glenister's DC Neil Brenton, Kerry Godliman's Sonya Reeves and Tamzin Griffin's Val all have their moments as the season's threads pull together, and none of them feel wasted, which is more than most finales manage.

But it is a satisfying close, and the show deserves credit for not short-changing the ending. The mystery is dismantled properly, piece by piece, and the last word belongs to Lana's understanding of what she has been chasing. After six weeks of building, that feels earned, and more than a little hard-won.
