In the Smoke
First broadcast 1997-08-10 · Nicola Walker as Carol
The Crabbes borrow an ex-policeman's London flat for a holiday that does not last: Margaret finds the owner's packed suitcase under the bed, hears the answerphone warning that a violent ex-convict is on his way, and then finds the ex-convict's corpse in the dustbin. Walker is Carol in the self-defence killing and concealment the holiday uncovers.
Dalziel and Pascoe · S05E01
A Sweeter Lazarus
First broadcast 2000-07-01 · Nicola Walker as Abbie Hallingsworth
Dalziel returns from gunshot wounds to a hostage taking on a hostel roof, an undercover WDC inside, and a suspect falling to his death in hot pursuit — his account depending on the only other witness, a young homeless woman calling herself Abbie Hallingsworth. Walker plays the name at the centre of a nineteen-year-old case: abducted at thirteen, the m pinned to a disappearance that never fully closed.

Episode 4
First broadcast 2010-05-25 · Nicola Walker as Linda Shand
A serial killer on the rampage and a strange, quiet pursuit for a show with this much violence in it — most of the work in interviews and second guesses, mapping a mind that does not want to be mapped. Walker is Linda Shand, sitting at the edge of the case with Rob Jarvis's Graham, their presence giving the killer a face before the story is ready to.

Cradle
First broadcast 2013-04-24 · Nicola Walker as Helen Bartlett
Helen turns up at Janet's house with a story from thirty years ago: as a little girl she helped bury her brother Michael, killed by accident by their father and buried in the family cellar. The police dig and find two male bodies, then more. Walker plays the woman Dodson reads as victim rather than offender — a view not everyone shares, and the episode keeps both readings live.

Futures
First broadcast 2013-05-23 · Nicola Walker as Helen Bartlett
The arc inverts: Helen, drunk and furious, charged with a crime she reported in the first place and now publicly reviled for it, takes Gill at knifepoint during an engagement-party shopping trip and demands the seaside. Walker plays the abduction as the character's logic reaching its end — spotted from the air, the inquiry she began closing around her.
